Artist Statement
Avis Rasmussen is a local painter and printmaker of national significance.
With pencil and paint she brings a West Coast narrative to her ‘en plein air‘ work capturing fleeting yet intimate vignettes of humanity, the ever-changing light that suffuses then abandons a landscape, or the myriad shivering hues of nature unfolding.
Her lifelong irrepressible passion for sketching and painting motivated her to pursue a varied and successful fine arts education, to illustrate her own books, and to travel across this continent and throughout Europe.
An accomplished artist, Avis Rasmussen’s paintings and original prints are not only included in many local, national, and international private collections but also housed in over 20 public gallery collections across Canada.
Avis is a longtime member of CARFAC BC and Victoria Arts Council. She remains active with The Victoria Sketch Club and looks forward to showing a selection of her unframed watercolours and prints at Fernwood Art Stroll 2025.
