Artist Statement
Faces intrigue and pull the viewer to wonder about lived experience. Layers of media, (especially water soluble crayon, acrylic paint, watercolour and ink) suggest the layering of life experience and a tethering to ancestors. Questions about identity and belonging recur. Susan’s work explores the boundaries of the individual as well as the longing for connection. A focus on the specifically female experience relates to ancestral and current oppression and the need to transform modern perceptions of the feminine.
