Artist Statement
Rachel’s explores water as both subject and refuge. Drawn to the ocean since childhood, she spent a lifetime observing its surface—how light breaks across it, how movement can feel both restless and calming. Rachel came to painting later in life, learning the medium through an intense focus on this single, ever-changing element.
Through hyper-realistic detail and a slow, deliberate process, Rachel aims to translate the experience of being at the water into interior spaces. Her work aims to celebrate the beauty of the waters of Vancouver Island and its coastlines, and to make it something you can enjoy every day for those that like her, don’t live with an oceanfront view.
