Artist Statement

Faces intrigue me, especially those of girls and women. I love to speak to people, to listen to their stories. My art reflects these interactions, the hidden inner life. I use layers of media (especially acrylic paint and ink, water soluble crayon and watercolour), to highlight the layers we experience. My work explores questions of identity as well as the desire for belonging and connection. A focus on the specifically female experience relates to oppression and the need to transform modern perceptions of the feminine. Lately, I’ve also become more interested in our place in nature, so you might find me painting the odd owl, fox or field of flowers.
